Celtics Waive Brandon Wallace
Last week Brandon Wallace looked at his nameplate in the Celtics locker room and smiled. He was happy to be back in Boston. But on Tuesday, his time with the league-leading Celtics came to an end. Wallace was waived less than two months into his rookie season.
The Celtics raised eye brows when they signed the undrafted free agent from South Carolina in July before inking their own second round draft picks, Gabe Pruitt and Glen Davis. At 6'9" Wallace was long and lean, and he had a leaping ability that brought athleticism to the squad. The Celtics signed Wallace in the media work room at the Las Vegas Summer League.
The face of the Celtics changed, though, just weeks after Wallace join the team. They became a veteran ball club and there was little room for inexperience. Wallace was left to sit on the bench.
The Celtics assigned Wallace to the NBA Development League's Utah Flash in November. He averaged 12.5 points and 9.2 rebounds in six games for the Flash before a wrist injury sent him back to Boston for treatment.
Last week Wallace told HOOPSWORLD, "It's just good to see all the guys. I've been watching them from afar and then [I got] the chance to get back and see them play, so it's good."
Wallace, who still has to wear a wrist brace for another week, is the first Celtic to be moved this season. Boston's roster now stands at 13.
