Kevin Garnett led the Boston starters with 14 points and nine boards, while Paul Pierce missed all seven of his field goal attempts, finishing with six points and five assists.
It was the last preseason game for the Celtics, who will begin their defense of the NBA title at home against Cleveland on October 28.
Nate Robinson posted a game-high 25 points, while Zach Randolph logged 12 points and 11 caroms for the Knicks, who shot just 4-of-31 from behind the arc in the loss.
